IIED’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities is evident in its longstanding partnership with the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group. Recognizing the unique climate vulnerabilities and resource constraints facing LDCs, IIED has provided essential support to amplify the group’s voice in global climate negotiations, including those leading to the Paris Agreement.
IIED’s hosting of LIFE-AR originates from this support to the LDC Group.
Following a request from the LDC chair, IIED serves as a host organisation for the Interim Secretariat and provides on-demand technical, strategic, and logistical support to the initiative. However, IIED’s role was envisioned as temporary, until an independent LIFE-AR entity is created.
For IIED, LIFE-AR is an opportunity to learn from LDCs and reflect on how LIFE-AR principles and ‘business unusual’ can be embedded in IIED’s work and build the organisation’s capabilities.
