The LDC Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR)’s governance is carefully structured to ensure:

The initiative continues to be LDC-led (Least Developed Countries)
It provides effective oversight and support to participating countries
It engages development partners, and
Influences the international climate finance architecture, so it can better support the LDCs in the medium- to long-term.

LIFE-AR Governance Framework

Since the inception of LIFE-AR in 2019, the initiative has been governed by a Board chaired by the LDC Group Chair. They are joined by three LIFE-AR country representatives and three development partner representatives, plus anInternational Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) Board member to represent the Interim Secretariat.

The Board is supported and informed by a technical working group, as well as audit and risk, institutional development and financing working groups. They all report to the Board ahead of Board meetings.

An Interim Secretariat, housed in IIED, supports the LIFE-AR Board. It is responsible for Board meeting preparation and facilitation of working group meetings, ensuring that delivery, operations and finance, and risks are monitored, and any issues are addressed.
